Honestly, some games I never would have gotten myself had I not borrowed them from friends. And considering that pirates will eventually figure out how to rip the discs, this may do more harm than good for profits.
While I understand why these companies are against used games, it really isn't fair to pretty much force the internet on people. What about gamers who unfortunately live in remote areas and do buy new games but due to their location can't get anything better than dial up, if anything at all? It's a common reality for a lot of people and this whole anti-used games/you must have the internets!!!! thing is really isolating a portion of their customer base. :(
My game purchasing is going waaaaaaaay down. Prices are going to need to drop way below $60 before I start buying them. Especially these days. Seriously, I'm tired of spending $60 on an 8 hour game. Yes, I'm looking at you Uncharted 3. Especially since it wasn't even good. I really DGAF about multiplayer. I'm less miffed about the $60 I spent on God of War 3 since that game just redefines the word epic, but still. I'd be happier if they negotiated with major retailers selling used games to get a commission on used game sales instead of adopting the worst part of PC gaming.
Honestly, I'm not even ready for a new Playstation. I don't think that's going to change by next Christmas. Especially since this thing isn't going to have backwards compatibility.
The reason why Steam is successful is that people don't mind paying for a digital download if they are paying a fraction of the price. If Microsoft and Sony want to move this direction, they will have to realize that $60 games aren't going to be much of a future for them.
I'm also unlikely to buy a new console anytime soon, with a large backlog and plenty of games (many available used) that I could buy. There are plenty of us who don't need the new shiny, and I'm perfectly willing to abandon consoles again for the PC.
This. No used games, must verify via PSN....I'm not a rich person...so my PS3 will be with me until they change this insane idea...which may be never, and that's A-ok!
excited yet discouraged because I'm buying the star wars kinect system next week. I bought my first baby in 2008. idk when I'll buy the next xbox gen system, 2015? lol

B) I'm not a fan of the industry's plans for used games at all. It seems unfair, among other things.

Also remnds me of Durango 95 from A Clockwork Orange.
the games industry does not need to imitate the music industry cuz that worked out so well for them. I think it's a bit different though but still
