Hey everyone, this is my first actual post on the community, so here we go.
I am from Puerto Rico, so there aren't that many haunted places that I know of here in the island, so when I find some place or I have an experience I want to let other 'creepers' know about it. Years ago, I found one through a personal experience and not many people know about it.
It was called the Dupont Plaza Hotel in El Condado, a region of our capital San Juan.
The original building was built in 1964, in 1970 it became the Dupont Plaza. It was one of the most famous hotels in the Condado area.
However, in 1986 the hotel became a death trap for it's guests.
It started when disgruntled employees decided to take a labor dispute into their own hands and set fire to a storage room filled with flamable furniture. The fire quickly spread, most people where trapped in the casino that had inward opening doors with no means of escape. Many leaped from windows into the pool, others climbed to the roof. In the end 97 people were dead and the once glamorous hotel looked like this:
What stands in this spot now is the Marriot Hotel.
I'm not sure if there have been other experiences of hauntings, but I'm sure I had an experience there. Back in 1999 or 2000 I was staying there with my family. I believe it was in the 7th floor. I went into the bathroom to take a shower and locked the door from the inside. As I was in the shower I saw a shadow go by through the curtain, like a person walking by. I didn't pay much attention thinking it was my mother bringing me something I left in the room. When I got out of the shower I realized that was impossible because the door was still completely locked and my mother said she hadn't been near the bathroom. I couldn't explain what had happened. At the time I had no idea of the Dupont tragedy, only years later did I realize the possibility of what I had seen. I am certain this place is haunted and would like to go there again to see if I have a similar experience. So, for you creepers out there that want an experience while on vacation, this might be the place.
