Home Invasions

One subject that terrifies me is the subject of home invasions. I know many of us have said this repeatedly in this comm, but I do believe people are capable of the scariest and most horrible things, and terrify me much more than the paranormal (remember this post One of the most recent home invasions that drew nation-wide attention occurred in ( ... )

I'm always terrified of this. I remember one time I was laying in bed after hearing a knock on my door and I was home alone and I knew it wasn't anyone in my family so I didn't answer all the sudden someone was peeking into my window. I've never jumped out of my bed so fast. Then the person went to my back door and tried to open it. Thankfully they went away, but I was still scared lol.

It is the scariest because it is something that could easily happen. Whether or not you will ever see a ghost or an alien, whether or not one would be malevolent, is debatable. Random acts of violence are tangible things, and much more disturbing to me.

My ex-husband had his car broken into once, though it wasn't scary so much as irritating. It's not quite the same thing as having your home broken into, it is somewhat less an invasion of privacy. For some reason, I feel more concerned about burglars/rapists/serial killers when I visit family who live out in the boonies. I know home invasion is more likely in the city, but out in the stillness and the utter darkness of the country it is easy to let your imagination run wild.

I completely agree. the existence of ghosts and aliens are called into question, but we know that there are people out there willing to break into your house/car/what have you, and take your things.
Especially with the being out in the boonies, my aunt lives in the middle of nowhere Connecticut. You just feel so much more exposed and isolated in the middle of nowhere, and it terrifies me everytime I go to her house.

Sort of as a side note, I remember in 8th grade my history teacher's car was broken into... and the robber stole the test we had just taken. They were in my teacher's briefcase and he was just gonna to pass all of us but then the police found his briefcase with the tests in it a couple days later.

It happened here recently, just about 10 miles from my house. A husband and wife were trying to sell their diamond ring, and used Craig's List (bad idea). They got someone saying they were interested, and she came saying she had cash for it to their house.

Some of her male friends barged in, and the father went to protect his family and they killed the father.

The full story is here

There was another one north of Seattle that was very similar.

Lake Stevens Home Invasion Robbery

Suffice it to say I don't let anyone into my house if I don't know them.

Our house was broken into when I was little but thankfully none of us were home at the time, my brother noticed the door ajar and figured something was wrong so word got to us at the beach and we went back.

I don't remember anything about the police but I do remember we were all worried about our 3 cats but they were just sitting on top of the TV acting like nothing happened.

My son and I used to live in a townhome, and he (at 10 years old) forgot to lock the back door one day when we left for the entire day. This was shortly after Christmas. We came home and my son goes upstairs and comes back, "Mom, did you take my PS2?" I told him no, why? His PS2 was gone, his Gameboy was gone and his PSP was gone, some DVDs were gone, and all his games to go with the gaming systems were gone. He'd just gotten all of those from family for Christmas.

They also ate left over pizza we had in the kitchen.

It was most likely kids. I didn't have renter's insurance, so there really was nothing I could do. :(

I have dreams about coming down my stairs after waking up and seeing my front door ajar. It's a reoccurring one, but it terrifies me everytime. :(
