Oddly enough, when I went to the Grand Canyon a few years back I was able to walk right up to the edge and hang my toes over and never had any fear. But get me on a step ladder? TERROR!
I went when I was like 12, and they said to walk the paths 1st to make sure you could handle the donkey ride ... we did and got to a point where a boulder was cutting off the WHOLE PATH, my my dad jumped around it (it was a LOOOONG drop down!), grabbed my arm from his end, while my mom held mine from the other, and pulled me across ... HANGING by their two hands ... then my mom jumped across like my dad did ... after that, HELL yes we did the donkey ride!! LMAO!
Oh, man. I always feel a little queasy when I see that photo of the ironworkers. My boyfriend is a pipefitter and regularly hangs out at the tops of the smoke stacks around here - mind you, he's got a lanyard, but STILL.

and stairs with open slats between each step
