Are they a wonder or an abomination?
Do you have any?
Air your opinions and/or OCs. I'm sure we'd all like to see them!

i think OCs are inevitable with everything, and they can be done well, or they can be done for shit. it depends on the person at the helm, lol. an OC can make things even more interesting, by messing up the gears in the well-oiled machine that is the canon universe, or they could totally screw everything up and not in the fun way.

i don't mind OCs, though. and even "cliche" plots (~so and so is the best command student since kirk and she gives him a run for her money~) can be interesting if they're done right. i don't like the whole idea of having a sweeping generalization on all OCs. cause you may find some gems [:

make them into bad guys just because, gasp!, they're women - that drives me crazy more than any OC.

UGH yes thank you. I mean, I get the fact that if you're writing in McCoy's voice, Jocelyn isn't going to turn out to be this Mother Theresa figure. But still, there needs to be respect given no matter what...

THIS YES. Jocelyn can be the ex-wife without being a one-dimensional bitch. And I have no patience for Winona being cast as a terrible mother.

I invented a whole ship myself when I first started liking Star Trek. I liked my crew. Some of the characters on that crew became the base for the characters of the Animation I'm currently working on.

I don't think there's anything wrong with creating OCs, as long as you don't go over the top and end up making stupid Sues or Stus.
