If you have access to a group of children: Let them paint signs and have them collect donations. People love giving children money because it breaks their hearts to see children doing something for a good cause.

Wow. The way I say it makes it look kinda exploitative. I hope everyone gets what I mean though.

When I was in high school I had to raise a bunch of money for something, so what I did was I wrote a letter explaining what I was doing, where the money was going, etc, and sent to to all the businesses in my town. I also included an addressed stamped envelope in the letter so it would be easier for people to send me money.

I ended up getting around $3000.

Go around to businesses to find sponsors. If you ensure them that none of the money is going toward your expenses, a lot of companies will donate.

My friend went to Haiti for a couple weeks this year, and she got a lot of donations from her church.

I know how you feel, bb. I wish I had the money to volunteer abroad for a year but it's so terribly expensive.
