First post. Hope I get this right.
An addendum to the SOI vs. Johnny incident. For some reason I haven't seen this mentioned in most articles and I've read too many speculations of Johnny running to GLAAD to complaint just so he can get what he wants. I've doubted that is the case to begin with-Johnny has always seemed to push for his sexuality to being a non-issue in his profession, whether it's to his advantage or not-and I just read this is what Johnny said about it in the original interview with Access Hollywood, following his "show with Lady Gaga" comment.
He dismissed the idea that he was excluded because of his flamboyant style or perceived sexuality and noted that ice-skating is always going to be flashy.
“I don’t like to look at boundaries as far as sexuality is concerned. I don’t like to look at things based on a person’s sexuality,” he continued. “Anytime you get men in glitter it’s flamboyant occasion!”
GLAAD seemed to have intervened independently then (good for them, they should speak out) but I wish other articles have mentioned this as well. Of course, that doesn't mean SOI isn't dealing with Johnny based on his sexuality-it just means Johnny is consistent with his stance of being himself and not a label, which is fabulous. I suppose that may be why he elects to be the DBWfH sometimes-he prefers to take things personally than using his perceived sexuality as an excuse for himself and others :).
Source PS. I am officially allergic to the word "flamboyant". I even cringe when I see the word "flamebroiled" due to aesthetic similarity.
