Daisuke gives advice to BB skaters

Jan 02, 2011 00:59

Here's a documentary called "Tell Me, Daisuke Takahashi senshu," where Daisuke answers some srsbzn skating questions & shares loldorable trivia about himself such as his favorite dishes and his strangest dreams.

[01:52]
Q. HOW CAN YOU SPIN SO WELL WITHOUT GETTING DIZZY?
I close my eyes.
They say it's best to look to the left when you spin counter-clockwise, but I get dizzy by the sights when I open my eyes so I just shut them.

[03:08]
Q. WHAT'S THE MOST FUN THING ABOUT SKATING?
It's hard to narrow this down to only one...
But I think the best part is that you can hog the limelight, that you can have the audience's attention all to yourself.
You're not allowed to do that in other sports, or in things like theater either.
You get to use all this space for yourself during those 4 minute and a half. There's no other sports like that.
I want people to look at me, so I think that's the most attractive part.

[04:13]
Q. WHILE YOU ARE SKATING, DO YOU SEE THE FACES IN THE AUDIENCE?
Yes, I can see lots of them.
There are people who seems to be really having fun, and there are people who aren't even watching at all.
And when my eyes meet with someone in the audience and this someone gives me a look trying to cheer me on, it gives me a lot of energy.

Q. CAN YOU LOOK AT ME NEXT TIME?
Sure, I'd love to. If you're in the place where I throw my glance, there's a possibility our eyes will meet.

...WAY TO SELL THOSE EXPENSIVE SEATS, DAISUKE!

[04:55]
Q. HOW MANY COSTUMES DO YOU HAVE?
How many costumes do I have? I don't know. At least 20. Maybe about 30.

[05:25]
Q. WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT CHOOSING YOUR COSTUME?
I like the flashy stuff. And the glittery stuff. I want to wear things that get my spirits high at competitions.
If I feel that it doesn't look good on me, even just a little bit, it will reduce the excitement in my performance.
Wearing what I really like, what looks good, gives me energy at competitions.

[08:17]
Q. HOW CAN YOU LAND COMBINATION JUMPS EASILY?
I've struggled a lot, and I'm still not good at this. I think practice is the only solution.
Add a [second] jump to every jump you do for about a year or so. That's how I learned to do it.
Don't be shy about not being able to land them. Just practice a lot.

When I was little I loved skating so much.
I was told to quit skating all the time, they said I could quit any day, but I never said I wanted to quit.
On weekends I would be at the rink from 10 am in the morning to 7:45 pm in the evening.
It's not that I was skating the whole time, but I was always hanging around the rink.
I think I won't lose to anyone when it comes to the amount of time I practiced as a kid.

[11:20]
Even if you don't get better at it don't panic.
I think the most important thing is to just keep on doing it. Practice has a meaning in itself.
It might not yield results in what you're pursuing at the moment, but it will surely yield results in something else you'll be doing.
It's better if you look at it that way.

[13:12]
If you quit something because it's too hard for you, you're surely going to regret it later.
If you do it and fail hard you can get over it, but if you don't do it and think that you could have done it, you'll feel frustrated and mortified.
I guess I don't want to end up feeling that way.

Q. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF FOOD?
I think it would be gyoza (fried dumplings). When it comes to gyoza, every single one tastes good.
Even if it tastes bad, it tastes good. Do you get it?
Gyoza that taste good is good of course, but even the bad one tastes good.
It might not taste good, but...I don't know how to explain...it tastes good.
There's no difference in how a gyoza would tastes like. Do you get it?

...NO DAISUKE. I DON'T GET IT. (IDEK IF I UNDERSTAND HIS JAPANESE.)

[00:51]
Q. WHAT KIND OF DREAMS DO YOU HAVE WHEN YOU'RE SLEEPING?
I invented this electric fan type of thing that rotates very quickly and I wore it on my back and flew away.
I brought along these gigantic creatures behind me that haven't been discovered yet.
And when I pushed this button a net would come out so I could capture all of them.
There were lots of zombies coming at me. My dreams tend to be quite epic.

HE NEEDS TO TALK TO A CERTAIN SWISS GUY ABOUT THIS. SERIOUSLY.

[01:16]
Q. CAN YOU TEACH ME A TRICK TO LAND MY JUMPS CLEAN?
The trick to is to breathe out and relax when you jump.
If the rhythm is 1-2-3, you breathe out like whoosh-whoosh-whoosh and jump. That's how I do it.
I adjust my breathing to the timing of the jumps.

[03:45]
Q. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE FEELING NERVOUS?
When I get too nervous, I tend to move around too much and fail, so I try to contain my urge to move and sit still.
That's what I try to do. Whatever you do you will get nervous, so it's better not to be afraid of being nervous.
If you do everything you can in practice, you will never get too nervous.

Daisuke receives a letter from a fan.

"Dear Daisuke Takahashi-senshu. Thank you for your advice.
Because of your advice I'm not falling too much anymore but at the competition I fell and it was frustrating.
I will try my best to get to the Olympics, so please try to get the gold medal at the Olympics."

[08:21]
It tickles me and flatters me to read this.
It feels good that he's doing this because of what I said. I want to cheer for him.
It says here that he wants me to get the gold medal at the Olympics. I don't know. I'll do my best!

[09:25]
There were some tough questions, but I hope I was able to give decent answers.
I know there are a lot of things you might be thinking now, but while you're young don't think and just enjoy skating for as long as you can.

ADVICE FROM DAISUKE TO SKATING MOMS & DADS
There is one thing I want to say to the parents.
Just watch over your children. Please don't interfere, just watch over them with patience.
That's all I have to say. Good luck!
