Alvarez and Heim in the Lead after SP
Laurent Alvarez and Bettina Heim are in the lead after the first day of the Swiss Championships in the Bossard Arena in Zug. The free progams will take place on Saturday.
Alvarez had a prominent fan in the stands in Stéphane Lambiel; the 2005 and 2006 world champion cheered him loudly on and couldn't hide a certain nervousness. The first place of Alvarez after the short program is more than well-earned. The 20-year-old Genevan was not just the only skater with a triple axel, he also distinguished himself artistically from the rest. It was clear to see that he is trained by Peter Grütter, who brought Lambiel to the top. In addition to that, Lambiel himself also helped him. Alvarez (57.30) has a lead of 3.08 points over Stéphane Walker (54.22) in the second place. The third place was taken by Mikael Redin (53.14).
Bettina Heim (46.00), already a three time Swiss Championships silver medallist, was deducted for her triple toe loop but still has a 3.14 point advantage on Romy Bühler (42.86). The only 16 years old Bühler had to settle for a double-double combination. The top two could settle the title between themselves, although the third place, Tina Stürzinger (41.20), is only just behind Bühler.
Besides medals, the competition in Zug is also for tickets to the European Championships in Bern (January 24-30). There are three spots for then men and two for the ladies, of which one goes to the injured Sarah Meier.

source Redin and Heim first-time Swiss Champions
Mikaël Redin and Bettina Heim became first-time Swiss figure skating champions in the Bossard Arena in Zug.
Redin secured the gold medal with the best free program; he was only third after the short program. The 21-year-old was born in Metz, France and has no Swiss passport, but he will skate for Switzerland since he has lived and trained in Küsnacht since september 2006. Redin had six triple jumps and was only deducted for the loop. The protegé of Richard Leroy won his third medal at the Swiss championships, having finished third the two previous years. The silver medal went to Laurent Alvarez, trained by Peter Grütter, who was in the lead after the short program. The 20-year-old from Geneva, who made the podium for the first time at a national championship in the elite category, fell on his triple axel and triple loop. Stéphane Walker won the bronze over Moris Pfeifhofer. The top four were only 5.29 points apart.
Of the ladies, Bettina Heim defended her lead after the short program although she, after a good start in the free program, had a much weaker finish. The 21-year-old from Appenzeller, who has previously been third in three Swiss championships, beat the second place Romy Bühler by 4.57 points. 16-year-old Bühler was artistically the best skater in the field but fell on her first two jumps (lutz and salchow), after the wrong music was played at first and she therefore had to focus anew. The third place was taken by Myrian Leuenberger after a great comeback from the 10th place after the short. The youngest skater in the field, the just 13-year-old Alisson Perticheto, got a good 6th place, and the just one year older Tina Stürzinger was 4th.

I'M LIFTING THIS PARAGRAPH OUTSIDE THE CUT BC SOME OF YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN SARAH MEIER
Also present in Zug was Sarah Meier, who had not been able to participate due to a foot injury. "It's not going well for me yet," said the 26-year-old from Bülach. The PRP treatment has not yet had the desired effect. On the contrary: "I'm just as far as I was before the injection," Meier explained. So far there still hasn't been a positive effect, and she has lost two weeks. She doesn't think about giving up just yet, though, and the European Championships in Bern remain her goal.
source TL;DR: SWISS SKATERS GET RIDIC LOW SCORES, STÉPHANES FAVOURITE GETS SILVER, EVERYBODY FALLS, SARAH MEIER NOT LOOKING GOOD, I'M SO BORED I'M BEGINNING TO LIKE TRANSLATING THINGS
