PERFECT LANDING OF QUADS
Two weeks ago at the Cup of China, Kozuka earned his personal best score and won the competition by a landfall, making a big step forward to qualify for the Grand Prix Final.
However...
"I don't feel like I've done a perfect job..."
At the beginning of his free program, he made a mistake of putting his hand down on the quad. Although he earned his personal best, he wasn't satisfied with his performance.
"It was really a regretful mistake. I feel I almost have it(the quad), and I've been landing them steadily in practice."
His jumps are getting better. He hopes to do a better performance and recover the mistake at his next assignment in France.
IMPROVEMENT IN PROGRAM COMPONENTS
There are other aspects he showed great progress in.
"Since the later part of the last season, my five components have been improving much better compared with the ones in the past."
Five components, also known as Program Components, is the score that assesses Skating Skills, Transitions, Performance/Execution, Choreography and Interpretation. Yes PCS. Among _skaters called as Points for Canadian Skaters :P
World Champion Daisuke Takahashi, who is known for his superior expressiveness, received an average of 80.10 points for his PCS during the last Grand Prix season, whereas Kozuka only received an average of 68.15 points. D:D:D: THAT WAS HORRIBLE Especially the latter three aspects, which assesses expressiveness, have stayed at a relatively low level.
This season he started working on reinventing himself.
"I think this(figure skating) is a sport where you earn points by being expressive, so I feel I have to emphasize my movements more. I made the programs in order to get those expressive moves."
To improve his expressiveness, he has been concentrating on making greater moves using his whole body to appeal to the audience.

He expresses the music/program throughout the body. That is his personality which I'm so in love with, makes him a unique and interesting skater. Yes his face is less expressive compared to his body but he is trying! Really, how is the face that important when you skate in huge arenas? Once you see Taka skating in person, his fluid move/stunning skating captivate you completely, for sure you have no room for bothering about his little faaaceee! :P /rant
At the Cup of China his efforts paid off. His PCS rose up to 74.70, and it contributed to his new personal best score. YAY CONGRATS TAKA-CHAN!
By increasing the accuracy of his quadruple jumps and polishing up his presentation skills, will Kozuka skate his perfect program and qualify for the Grand Prix Final at TEB?
OF COURSE I WILL!
