Mini TV Documentary: How Daisuke got his Quad Back

Oct 28, 2010 23:40

As you have witnessed last Sunday at the NHK Trophy, Daisuke successfully landed a quad-toe in his free program, twice in a row counting the one he landed at the Japan Open early on this month.
Since his knee injury in October 2008, it has taken two full years to get his quad back and now he's looking better than ever. Here's what he has to say about the importance of the quad. Take a look.

August 2010, Interview

Interviewer: You used to do the quad before you had your injury, right?

Daisuke: Yes. I think the spring in my knee was not back yet at the Olympics.

Daisuke: The fact that I couldn't land the quad in any competition throughout the season was a disappointment for me.

June 2010, Listening to his FS music, "Invierno Porteño "

Daisuke: It's 4 minutes and 40 seconds. The sound is clear, isn't it?

Interviewer: Are you going to include the quad in your free skate?

Daisuke: Yes I will.

Interviewer: Are you going to keep on going for the quad?

Daisuke: I was able to do it before, so I will keep on doing it till I get it back.

The top male skater has to have the quad. Even if I could win without one, I won't feel like a winner. (sorry Evan...)

Daisuke: The feeling I have in my knee is becoming close to how it was before the injury. The spring and the elasticity is coming back.

Now I feel it has come back, I feel I can do it if I have enough fighting spirit.

Interviewer: This time you'll be aiming for the second consecutive win at Worlds, a feat not accomplished yet by any Japanese skater. How do you feel about this?

I'm looking forward to it. I want to see how I perform at the most important competition of the season. It's a chance for me to prove myself.
