SURYA BONALY APPRECIATION POST
Surya Bonaly (1973-) is French ladies figure skater, and pretty much the fiercest one to ever exist.
She was born in Nice, France and adopted at eight months old by Georges and Suzanne Bonaly.

5-Time European Champion (91-95)
3-Time World Silver Medalist (93-95)
Surya is most known for her ability to do a backflip and land on one foot. She is considered the only- or one of the only- skaters in the world who can. Backflips are illegal in competition, but she did one at the 1998 Olympics to leave a mark on the audience and skating world, knowing she would not medal.
While the general consensus is that Surya was very lacking in artistry and notably awkward between jumps (though of course this is subjective), she's a total BAMF so we forgive her.
Also, the bitch can quad.. sort of. Although she's never been credited with rotating a quadruple jump, she was the first lady to attempt one in competition, and the only next to Miki Ando.
She is also remembered for her exotic and original costumes.
Surya is a vegetarian and involved with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
She also competed in gymnastics and diving. She won the World Junior Tumbling Championships in 1986.
