Evan Lysacek Gets Fired Up on the Ice

Evan Lysacek had a smooth transition Thursday night from the dance floor to the sheet of ice for his Smucker's Stars on Ice performance at Los Angeles' Staples Center.
Bringing heat into the frigid arena, Evan melted the ice with his routine to Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror." The number, choreographed by "Dancing with the Stars"' very own Mark Ballas, was inspired by his good friend and costume designer Vera Wang. Evan said, "She said you have to skate to this song from the end of 'This is It.' 'Man in the Mirror,' it's such a positive message. It brought a tear to her eye and I thought this is the perfect opportunity for me to do it."
Evan flew solo on the ice, but relies on pro partner Anna Trebunskaya on the hardwood. Over the course of the season he said, "I've tried to incorporate a couple of things from skating on the floor. I have to adapt them obviously, but the freestyle's all about partnership. That's what I've learned over the last 10 weeks. I want to try to do as little on my own as I can. I want to be with Anna the whole time."
Anna said, "It's great to see Evan in his own element. He's so outstanding in what he does. I'm like a proud sister…like he's somehow related to me."
Evan's axels, lutzes, and musicality garnered rave reviews when ET exclusively spoke to his ballroom family at the ESPN Zone for an after party. Louis Van Amstel said, "He puts his heart and soul into everything he does, but what is so nice is seeing him in his own comfort zone…He's a champion on the ice, but I hope he walks away with that mirror ball trophy."
Mark was overjoyed with how his choreography was portrayed under the spotlight. "It was really hard-hitting, had rhythm, smooth, elegant, it's perfect," he boasted.
Evan is not the first and hopes to not be the last figure skater on "DWTS." He nominated Dorothy Hamill to bring her grace and gold medal spirit to the waltz and tango. "She'd be phenomenal," he said. "And I know that she has had a little bit of ballet training, but really no dance training at all."
