THIS IS A KATARINA WITT APPRECIATION/WORSHIP POST

Before this Queen

And this Kween

there was Queen Katarina I.

She did what Plushy can only dream about: she won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988. And oh yeah, she is a four-time world champion, six-time European champion and all-around HBIC.

Both of her amateur Olympics pitted her against an American. She beat the favored Rosalyn Sumners in 1984 by 1/10th of a point, and the 1988 ladies' event was called "the battle of the Carmens" because she and Debi Thomas were both skating to music from the opera.

Witt stated that Thomas simply skated to Carmen, but she became Carmen. Judge for yourselves:

I've watched this skate over and over. Perfection.

She went pro after the Olympics and still created beautiful programs.

In 1994 professionals were allowed to compete in the Olympics for the first time. She had no real chance at medaling, but she competed to represent unified Germany for the first time (she was born in East Germany and skated from behind the Iron Curtain. Her parents were never allowed to leave the country to see her in competition, so it was doubly special).
She finished sixth, with helo from this fierce as fuck short:

Since then, she's hosted skating shows in Germany, skated all over, published a novel, posed for Playboy, and had cameos in films. She was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995 and retired from skating in 2008. There are lots of naked pictures of her floating around, if you are so inclined. But I shall keep it ~classy.

Just broin' with Boitano

BEING TOTALLY PRESH WITH ALEXEI IN 2005

These are the skaters of ~my childhood~. See the guy on the far left? You know how NBC commentary is just a bunch of grunting and squealing? That's where that comes from.

Katarina's on-ice expression is what puts her above everyone else. Her routines only had a handful of triples, but she just pulled you in and made you part of the performance. THAT is a true figure skater, and true champion. I saw her in Stars on Ice in 1994 and have been stanning ever since.

The Queen and Dr. Debi thank you for your time and hope you enjoyed the lesson.

hurricaine katarina, love!post
