I mean..this is the same guy who's been going on about being inspired by the "simplicity, line & elegance" of John Curry for his new Don Quixote program. He definitely doesn't see himself the same way the rest of the world does.
And he also saw his training mate D10 get silver at Worlds last season, and I'm sure in daily training Evan sees himself as Frank's pride&joy, his only OGM, whereas he (Evan) probably views D10 as that tiny quiet Asian boy from some obscure country who struggles with boot issues and keeps getting injured/sick. And everyone, including Evan, knows that if D10 had even a single GP medal or a 4CC medal under his belt going into 2013 Worlds, he would have been world champion. I don't doubt that in training average!Evan and average!Denis are probably pretty even, since Denis has plenty of health/injury issues of his own that keeps him from training for weeks at a time, and Frank has said Denis's quad is often nonexistent in training. So I think Evan saw what Denis could do with two great skates and believed he could at least match it b/c he does have better nerves and reigning-OGM-reputation. (personally I think Denis's best is better than Evan's best, but I don't think Evan does.)
