More off-season coach drama!

Apr 25, 2012 15:39

We interrupt your Eurovision scheduling to bring an announcement about your future (current?) Japanese overlord:

According to this article, unless I'm getting completely the wrong end of the stick with my limited-at-best Japanese, Yuzuru Hanyu will be switching to coach Brian Orser. My rough translation of the article:

Figure skater Hanyu starts instruction under Mr. Orser, coach who instructed Kim Yu-Na

The hope for winning the bronze medal in the men's event at the Figure Skating World Championships, Yuzuru Hanyu (17) from Miyagi prefecture, Tohoku, from Northeast High School, is supposed to be studying under a Canadian coach who led Kim Yu-Na (South Korea) to the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, said the chairman of the Japanese Skating Federation, Ito Hidehito, on April 25th.

Henceforth, Mr. Orser will be basing his coaching mainly in Toronto, Canada. According to Chairman Ito, the decision was based on [Yuzuru's] intention of 'I want to raise my level overseas', leaving the guidance of Nanami Abe, a Sendai local with whom he has trained for many years.

To reiterate: this is a VERY LOOSE translation - less translation than adaptation. If anyone wants to do a better one, I'd be very grateful.

Soooooo~ thoughts?

EDIT: Icenetwork has an article in English about it here, which confirms it.
