It's true that the statements he made previously came across to me as kind of self-absorbed. Basically, it sounded like he is totally unaware of the fact that everybody makes sacrifices, and that he would only think about a country in terms of how much attention/support/money it can give him, specifically.

But without getting into various political opinions, to be honest I find the question about "siding with a country accused of human rights violations" even more stupid (as are most of the comments under the Globe and Mail article). He should be allowed to say something positive about China without people turning it into some sort of cold war geopolitical us vs. them.

I agree with all you say, especially the 2d point.

Heh, tbh I was actually thinking a moment about how to answer that question if I were him (lol what), and...I probably wouldn't be able to answer it all that well when I was 20. (Especially if he doesn't want to piss off his Chinese fans, either, of which there are some.)

But then again, I doubt I would have said all that nonsense that got all this started at age 20, either. *shrugs*

That's the reason he's in a deep need of media training :/

I thought he had some, last year...? Maybe it's time for a refresher.

though tbh when it comes to questions about politics and other countries, media training from SC may not quite help that much
