I can't agree more to what was said about Patrick, I mean, he even stumbled on a freaking step sequence, so what does that say about his skating skills??? And wether you like his skating-style or not, there are others out there who are as good as him (or in Daisuke's case even better, at least in my opinion) and can get high scores for the program components, it's not just about those stupid quads!!!!!

It wasn't even a step sequence as I recall, it was a jumping pass, he was just stroking at the time! I think he also slipped a bit at the end of his step sequence, looked like it in the replay (but don't quote me on that cuz I wasn't watching him that closely tbh).

Yes, I meant that slip at the end, but the trip before the jump was even worse! But I have to admit, he did great still being able to pull the jump off after that! Well, anyway, I just don't get why the judges are always getting so hyped up because of him... but opinions differ, right?

I guess they do! He just doesn't do anything for me stylistically, I don't get any emotion from him or feel anything watching him skate. But IDT the judges care about that. Sadly.

True to that! Shouldn't a skater get some credit when he's able to build a connection to the audience, involve them in his performance, make them feel moved and excited? It's a pity that it's impossible to measure things like that properly and involve it somehow in the scoring..... :-(

Slightly unrelated, but I remember a type of scoring like this while I was competing in UIL marching band. Judges would add points based on audience reaction to some extent, but like you said, there's not an accurate way to measure it. This did help my band quite a bit however, because we were an underdog to some extent, and I don't think we would have scored as highly without it.
