AND WE WERE DISPLEASED WITH HER DISPLEASURE. WE SEEMED TO BE AT CROSS-PURPOSES, WHEN SUDDENLY AN EXCELLENT MAN WITH AN ISU ID BADGE SHOWED UP IN OUR SECTION, SAYING: "YOUR PROBLEM IS BEING ADDRESSED. YOU'LL BE ABLE TO CHEER NOW!" WITH A DISCREET GESTURE TOWARDS OUR FRIEND THE SECURITY GUARD. WHEN A LADY IN THE ROW BEHIND US COMPLAINED, OUR KNIGHT IN ISU ARMOR INFORMED HER THAT: "IT'S ONLY CHEERING." ERGO:

HE REGULARLY GOES TO PSA CONFERENCES, WHEREIN HE APPARENTLY DOES REALLY HILARIOUS SOUNDING DEMONSTRATIONS WITH FRANK AND TOM Z AND PEOPLE. HE ALSO SAYS VARIOUS EXTREMELY SENSIBLE THINGS AT THESE CONFERENCES!
Cyr advised coaches that if they choose music with a beat, it would be good to ensure that the skaters skate on the beat. He acknowledged that "it is terrible to sit there and listen to music that is screaming in your ears," but concluded firmly, "You have to do the job."
From the floor, a coach asked if the PSA could institute some grievance process when a judge gives a mark that flummoxes and demoralizes a student (okay, the coach didn't use those exact words). Cyr outlined the USFSA grievance process already in place and said it was the coaches' responsibility to use it and help their students understand. He repeated a non-confrontational method of approaching a judge that he learned from Frank Carroll: "I see you placed my skater 9th, and they placed 2nd overall. In your mind, what would it take for you to place my skater 2nd?" That calls for accountability on the judge's part as well (Cyr noted dryly that "I don't remember -- what was your skater wearing?" was not an acceptable response).
"I DON'T REMEMBER - WHAT WAS YOUR SKATER WEARING?" = NOT AN ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE!
(Side note: Tom Z is horrible, news at 11. Apparently men doing spirals is "bad for the sport's image" OH STFU.)
