Why doesn't she....IDK...lose ranking for this? Augh it just makes me kinda miffed when skaters do this! Any skater! I was even all YOU IN DANGER BOY about RyBrad coming just to Nats, but then everyone tanked and it turned out well for him. XD
At the very least she should go to her Nationals and 4CC.
Actually, she isn't automatically first place. There is normal competition just like every other country, but Yuna is just omitted. She can skip Nationals and go straight to Worlds and other competitions because the Korean Nationals rules allow skaters with a certain ranking at the previous Worlds to be on the Worlds team without placing/competing at Nationals. Someone else gets to be Korean champ, but it hardly matters when Kim Yuna is the only skater who gets any sort of recognition, even in the Korean sports media.
I still think she should compete at Nats though. It's a disservice to her fans not to. I always wonder why she always says she does everything for her fans but doesn't even give them an opportunity to watch her at Nationals. :/ Her fans had to wait until Moscow to see her Korea homage. I think Nats would have been the perfect place to debut it. Plus, she would have won.
korean figure skating has no depth yet, unlike the US/Japan, and so there's no real pt in flying back and forth to disrupt her training. plus she's been single handedly giving korea the extra spot at worlds so... yeah. but she did say yes to 4cc if she continue to compete, so that's good.
hm i take back the last statement, i misread some comments. sorry! nothing definitive about the future, but she did acknowledge that she needed a competition before worlds.
I don't care. Cheltzie Lee still has to compete at Australian Nationals regardless of how many ladies are there. Mark Webster still has to compete at Australian Nationals and for many years he was the only senior man.
Nationals should be a MANDATORY step towards selection for 4CC/Euros/Worlds IMO.
:/ See I think that should be left up to the Fed's discretion. Korea as the previous poster stated, has no depth in its field. Its most up-and coming is Haejin Kim who's 12 and therefore not even eligible for Worlds and still flutzes/has tech issues. Yu-na really has no competition there + she's the only Korean female currently who can skate at a top level w/the best. Cheltzie Lee actually has some competition at Australian Nationals, though not as strong as in Japan. Just compare her international scores w/everyone else's. Thus, Nationals is superfluous for her really. I'd be WTF-ing if say Yu-na skated for Japan or the US which have fairly deep fields, Japan especially but considering it's SK and she's the ONLY female skater of any prominence from there AND she's the KSU's best hope for medaling then I can fully understand why she's allowed to skip.
Plus, Nationals aren't under ISU jurisdiction; that's up for the Feds to decide and hey, if KSU wants to go that way, go ahead. Their call and ultimately their fault if say an up and coming skater suddenly shows up medaling all over the international field (unlikely) and doesn't get to go to worlds because of Yu-na.
I call bullshit. It's arrogant and disrespectful not only to her fellow Korean skaters, but to her Korean fans and to the Korean Fed. It's also a slap in the face for any skater who has to go to Nationals to qualify. ANY skater. Every other skater at Worlds goes to their Nationals.
Let the other skaters have their chance. Maybe if she actually competed at Nationals and wasn't just automatically chosen every year the Korean fed would get a big surprise. If I was a young Korean skater, I would absolutely pull out all the stops in an attempt to beat her.
But then apparently Yunabots think she's perfect and flawless and no-one else should ever win anything except her...
First off, her fans have long accepted it thus I fail to see how it's disrespectful to them. Please don't foist your own assumption upon her fans (who I have chatted to and they don't have an issue w/her skipping Nationals). Two, Korean Fed allows for her to do this, hell back in 2007, they were the ones who sent her straight to Worlds w/out going through Nationals in the first place. As for her fellow Korean skaters, they DID raise protests against that back in 2007 but know why they don't do it constantly? Because at least w/her competing, Korea can actually send more than one skater to worlds as per usual because Yu-na has yet to be off the podium. And thus far, they don't have anyone else who has that capability. Minjung Kwak's the closest and she didn't even qualify for the Ladies SP. Thus, I fail to see your issue when the KSU doesn't have an issue w/it (considering it initiated the action to begin with), when her fans accept it, and her fellow skaters don't have an issue w/it.
Finally, really now the Yunabot card? So just because I like her skating, that automatically means I think she's a flawless goddess or something? No I just happen to like her skating... along with Mao's and Mirai's and a lot more. Wow and it wasn't arrogant of you to assume that about me at all -_-
You're making it sound like the KSU made the protesting skaters stop. They didn't. If they still had issues with it, it would have gone on. But the fact is, she's earning other Korean skaters more spots to Worlds to compete in and THAT'S why they backed down. And yes, Japan does stipulate that but the KSU doesn't for Yu-na. And her fans are okay w/it and her fellow skaters too because she's earning them places to compete at Worlds in so why's everyone making a big stink about it? If the people actually involved in it/are directly impacted by such a decision are fine, I hardly think we're in a position to cry for justice. It'd be one thing if there was actually another Korean skater who can even compare to Yu-na's international accomplishments but as it is, such is not the case.
yeah the national champ is 13. and the silver medalist is not eligible either.
and hopefully she will consider 4cc? the ppl on yuna's forum think she all but verbally agreed that she'd go to 4cc if she goes to worlds... but idk. a korean speaker said she did acknowledge that she needed a competition before worlds so i guess one could conclude that then if she were to compete at worlds again, she would compete at 4cc beforehand. nothing definite though!
