MOSCOW, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin supported Russia's bid to host the 2011 Figure Skating World Championship which was due to be held in quake-hit Japan, reported local media Tuesday.
Putin told Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mukto that Russia has millions of figure skating fans and is ready to host this event.
"This is not a very expensive event and we are capable of taking care of all expenses," the prime minister was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
The Figure Skating World Championship was initially scheduled on March 21-27 in Tokyo, but the International Skating Union (ISU) announced Monday that the Japanese Skating Federation had declined to hold the game after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Russia, as well as Finland, Canada and the U.S., have offered their bids, respectively, to ISU to hold the championship instead of Japan last week.

If Russia is this desperate to host Worlds, I think Speedy would end up choosing Moscow. At least, I don't think other countries are going to offer better deals than this.
