- Despite the disqualification, I continue to train and remain in good shape. In training I do two quads: Rittberger and Salchow, triple Axel, combinations. If I had short and free program ready, I think I could skate in World Championships and compete for medals. I'm preparing for life, for the next season. I have already talked to the leaders of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia - Alexander Gorshkov and Valentin Piseev. In Milan (...) I talked to the head of the International Skating Union Ottavio Cinquanta. He himself came into the locker room, we talked for a long time. And we came to a consensus that I must continue an amateur career. After the World Championships the disqualification should be removed. So I plan to compete already the next season.
Will you be able to do a 4,5 jump before the end of your career?
- Honestly, I have not even tried yet. Artur Dmitriev Jr. has been doing this jump quite well, but 4,5 axel - this is a very complex element. You can do four rotations. For the remaining half you would have to come up with something.
Mishin is a great expert on the subject. Hasn't he come up with something yet?
- Alexei invented a lot. In the "Jubilee" there is a room, where is a special device, invented by Mishin and his friend Victor Shapiro. It has helped many children, including Arthur Gachinski, who will represent Russia at the World Championships. It is possible that after returning from Salavat, where I have shows, I will also work on this device.
How is work on new programs going?
- I just returned from Novogorsk today. We are putting the program together with Alexander Zhulin, and his assistant Igor Orshulyak. A very large staff of people is working with me: physical training coaches, masseurs, choreographers, kickboxing trainers. I want to use all my muscles and learn something new. For new programs, we have chosen two very crazy visions. I can say that such Evgeni Plushenko you haven't seen yet. This step, of course, is risky, but we have to show something new. Figure skating is not standing still.
In your opinion, is Arthur Gachinsky able to be in the top ten in the World Championships, so that there could be two representatives of Russia next year?
- Arthur has to win these spots. However, I think the main goal for him is to skate two clean programs. And then one can only hope that judges will appreciate his performance. But hopefully Artur will be able to give a good performance, and Russia will have two skaters at the World Championships next season.
The main goal for you are the Olympic Games in Sochi?
- Yes. But there needs to be a right approach. This year there will be three training camps: in Italy, Spain and Estonia. It is required that there are no injuries there. Because now I have to learn new quadruple jumps. You can't master them right away. You learn them through falls, errors, injuries. You have to be ready for that. If I were 18 years old, I would need only Alexei Mishin and a choreographer. But now a lot of specialists from different areas work with me. And I understand that I need them.
One of them is a kickboxing coach. Why did you engage in this kind of martial arts, isn't it dangerous for skaters to fight?
- If you think about it, you can get to a conclusion that it is now dangerous to just walk. I am interested in motor racing, kickboxing, I continue to play tennis, paintball. Paintball helps train the respiratory system. In addition, you always run on half-bent legs there. This is very close to figure skating. There are elements you perform on bent legs. And kickboxing is needed to work new muscle groups. I'm training with two-time world champion Sergey Zelinsky.
Are you interested in motorsports as a spectator?
- I went to Puhtolova mountain for a test drive. On the last obstacle, the car almost fell over its side. It was scary because it seemed like a bit more, and you'll fall. By the way, Yana, my wife, also participated in the off-road, which amazed me. I was sure that she would not sit behind the wheel, since recently she traveled only with a driver. But she sat and passed all the obstacles first.

On March 8th, your coach will turn 70 years old. Can you believe this?
- In my eyes Alexei is forever young. We still play tennis. To my deep regret, he sometimes beats me. During the worm up we play 15-20 minutes of soccer. And sometimes Mishin is a goalkeeper. He is constantly in motion, constantly on the ice.
Would you want to repeat his coaching career?
- Now we have to deal with one career. I would like to end competing in amateur sports at the Olympic Games in Sochi. At least, I plan to. I will make a farewell tour in Russia and abroad and become a professional. My dream is to open the Evgeni Plushenko school of figure skating. There are proposals from St. Petersburg, and from the regions. But this needs time. To open a school, give it a name, and do nothing - that would not do. But in the future yes, I would like to take on coaching.
