I think they mentioned using modern technology on some of the pyramids, but the guy in charge of antiquities (Hawas?) was pretty skeptical about it (I could be remembering this wrong). Wonder what he's got to say about this ;) Provided of course he's still in charge after the Egyptian revolution.

I think he resigned his post right after. Not surprising really, he probably was all up in with the former government to even get that position! Anyway, I read a week or two ago that he was convicted of some land grab scheme and was going to jail. (Obviously, I don't really remember the details, haha!)

I totally want to see this show, I hope the BBC will let Nat Geo or some other channel show it! I love Egyptology!

Thank you! You have just made my day!

Now I have to go google the fate of Hawass. :D

I hope I didn't garble the real story too much, I just can't remember the details!

He resigned his post and then a couple weeks later, to the surprise of exactly no one, he was back in power again. And he did get convicted of some property-related shenanigans, but the fine was something like 1000LE (like, a lower-end traffic ticket in U.S. dollars) and he was only sentenced to some extremely short jail time which he will probably never actually serve.

Honestly, I think he should get a lot more legal trouble for the fact that when he launched his clothing line earlier this year, he gave permission for the models to be photographed sitting ON Tut's chair and manhandling various other antiquities that he won't even let legitimate scholars study.

Ah, the reality turns out to be much less juicy than the press made out. Why am I surprised by this?
