The Dallas Morning News hockey beat writer Mike Heika is reporting that a few past and present Dallas Stars, plus some friends, have rented ice time at the Frisco Dr. Pepper Ice Centre for this week. They have also hired former Florida Panther assistant coach Jim Hulton to run the practices, and their own staff to help them get in shape for a season that has yet to start.
The current Stars players involved in this endeavour are Trevor Daley, Mark Fistric, Eric Nystrom, Vernon Fiddler, Ray Whitney and Richard Bachman. Former Stars players practicing with them are Steve Ott (Buffalo), James Neal (Pittsburgh), Sheldon Souray (Anaheim) and Adam Pardy (Buffalo).
The invited friends include Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh), Shawn Horcroff (Edmonton), Ryane Clowe (San Jose), Chris Kunitz (Pittsburgh), Mike Weber (Buffalo), Cam Fowler (Anaheim), Dan Cleary (Detroit), Ryan Malone and Teddy Purcell (Tampa Bay), and Aaron Johnson (Boston).
The practices are open to the public from the upstairs viewing area, at least Monday's practice was. The doors to the seating area were locked. They are scheduled for 10:45am for the next three days if you happen to live in the Dallas area and are free to go check them out.
