Okay full disclosure: Up until yesterday, I hadn't watched S8 episodes. Call it denial, blame my busy school schedule or that I don't have a tv or cable right now, but I've been getting by on just very basic spoilers. But then yesterday at like 7pm, after a power outage ended, I decided to settle down and marathon the season. I really only got 7 episodes in before life got in the way but today after class, I finally finished with the season and the series.
So many great moments to love...what are your favorite episodes?
8x01 Lock, Stock, Some Smoking Barrels and Burton Guster's Goblet of Fire
Some really cool and slick cinematography from this season opener featuring Interpol...you know, from the DVDs? Though it would be totall farfetched to believe that Shawn could infiltrate or charm his way into going undercover, this episode provided some great moments and more importantly the return of Despereaux Staley Cory Despereaux. CE looks fabulous even when a security shack is exploding behind him
8x02 S.E.I.Z.E. the Day
Though the mystery of the week sort of fell flat, this was a great episode showcasing Carlton Jebediah Danger Lassiter's reaction to the news that he's going to be a father. On the other hand, Shawn's attempt at life coaching was predictably ridiculous, though he might really help Gus's mom with her online poker problem. Lassie giving Henry a ticket after a heart-to-heart was great as well
Best moment of the episode: Jules and Lassie hugging with their guns pointed at the perp then switching back to all business.
8x04 Somebody's Got a Woody
A Woody-centric episode! Loved Juliet pretending to be Woody's daughter, and Shawn & Gus taking Lassie's credit even though Lassie was great. Also, S&G acting out different scenarios in which they make up fake cases. The best part though of course, was Trout getting fired, though it was rather anticlimatic (but totally deserved).
8x06 1967: A Psych Odyssey
Anti-Trout prayer circle. Corbin as the hippie coroner from 1967. All the flashbacks in general. Sexy livers. .Okay, so James Roday's 1967 accent was unnecessary but this was just a great episode, especially the conversation between Lassie and Jules.
8x07 Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up
I would die if anything happened to my favorite taco truck, so this really hit home for me. I just love that Carlton and Marlowe are the new owners of the Spencer's house, even though let's face it, Lily Lassiter's birth was totally unrealistic (but perfectly timed). Marlowe has become one of my favorite characters, though I wish she would have had more screen time.
8x08 A Touch of Sweevil
I think Lassie went a little too overboard in this episode trying to push Betsy out but I'm totally going to try and make the word "sweevil" happen. I also like how they introduced Mira Sorvino's character (and her crocheting in the next episode)
8x10 The Break Up
I laugh-cried through Shawn's proposal to Juliet (and the asides with Gus) and I love the fact that they ended the series chasing some bad guys. I also really loved how the show alluded to Henry at maybe becoming a criminology teacher or something (but also most definitely buying the Psych office), and I LOVED that nod to Monk with Vick talking about the SFPD's consultant.
When the theme song for S8 started in 8x01, I didn't recognize most of the scenes and I realize now that the majority of it came from S8, which is wonderful and bittersweet and reminded me of S1's theme song. What I especially love was how the theme song ended with Gus running away and screaming from the very last episode.
I also like how they showed that even though Betsy's a superstar, there still would have been room for Shawn if he had stayed, just as to not completely invalidate his assistance. The Lassie/Shawn moments were perfection. And really, I think this was the perfect way to end the show. Sure, there may be things to nitpick but overall, a lot of things to love and an excellent finale.
