I never realized it until I took a look back but I really loved Season One. It was a solid season. I took my favorite episodes and sort of explained why they're the best to me...some I just remember and others I definitely rewatched because things like school and friends and sleep can wait.
I'd love to hear your favorites from S1!
1x01 Pilot
Oh my god, literally one of the best pilots ever. This is actually an episodes I can rewatch over and over. It's just so wonderfully ridiculous and quite honestly now I miss the flashbacks between young Shawn and Henry. And basically I have loved Anne Dudek ever since White Chicks (don't judge me but it's kind of a great movie) so her character was a great match for Carlton.
One of the best parts of this episode though is when Shawn noticed that the cook's allergies were acting up...just so great. Maybe one of my favorite Psych episodes ever
1x02 Spellingg Bee
Yay the introduction of Juliet! I liked that she was more of a rookie to balance out the dynamic between her and Carlton a bit, but I just love that the whole backdrop was a spelling bee and how intense Gus is about spelling bees...it's like how I get when I talk about tennis or figure skating and Shawn's reaction to Gus's aggressive spelling bee enthusiasm is basically the normal reaction of people around me.
1x05 9 Lives
I'm a sucker for cats and I'm a sucker for any episode that's McNab-heavy
1x06 Weekend Warriors
Lassie. Uniforms. Civil War reenactments. Why aren't you rewatching this episode already??
In all seriousness, I loved this episode because it was a solid mystery- I'm always intrigued by mysteries that happen very publicly, the "apparent accident" ones. I'm not huge on reenactments but I like history and this backdrop was just ripe for wonderful Shawn and Gus banter.
1x08 Shawn vs. the Red Phantom
I like comics, but I'm not a comic book nerd. Still, this episode was really great in 1) GEORGE TAKEI!!!!!!!!! 2) Interim Chief Vick/Lassie dynamic and 3) making it seem like a comic book plot without over complicating or over simplifying. I also don't want to paint too broadly or make any stereotypes when I say that the words "Comic Con" in an episode description guarantee hilarity but well, in my experience that has been the case.
1x10 From the Earth to the Starbucks
Right off the bat, I just have to say that the way this murder was committed was sheer genius- slowly poisoning someone over time? That takes calculation and also a lot of patience which I feel like I would not have as a murderer. Anyway, we've seen countless times that Lassiter is a great detective in his own right and even though it might be a little pitying that Shawn helps him, it's also really great character development into their relationship. I also see it less as pitiful and more as everyone needs a self-esteem boost sometimes, you know? It was just really nice of Shawn to try and help Lassie.
1x11 He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, He Loves Me, Opps He's Dead!
What's fun about this episode is seeing how they get from alien abductions to identity theft. Basically never trust anyone who asks for your mother's maiden name!
1x12 Cloudy...With a Chance of Murder
I was actually really surprised that they chose to remake this episode because I really liked it and thought it was fun. Shawn makes really fast assumptions about people based on his observations and his gut reactions are always a good setup.
1x13 Game, Set....Muuuurder?
I'm a sucker for anything that's tennis-related.
*Note: Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast scares me, even though it has the fabulous Shannon Woodward in it. And I really couldn't bear to use Psych photos for the header photo, so it's a deconstructed picture of a pineapple farm aka the first picture from Google Images lol
