xAs many of you guys have already posted, this will be the last season of Psych =( It is super disappointing that USA has decided not to renew the show for a ninth season and even more disappointing that they chose to announce it now but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
I've watched Psych from the very beginning and gotten people hooked on and I've definitely used the show as a friendship caliber- oh, you love Psych? You think it's hilarious? You're my kind of person!
Eight years is a long ass time, and it has been an amazing journey. It's definitely one of the most recognizable USA Network shows, and nothing can take away its legacy at the network. While I am definitely throwing some side-eye at USA and NBCUniversal, at the same time it's very impressive that they've given this wonderful show 121 episodes...especially considering Psych's ratings for S7 & S8 have been less than half of Monk's in their 7th and 8th seasons. It's always been the little show that could in many ways, mostly in "that little show that could be witty and have great subtle character development while still being silly and make a two hour musical and do plays on every single genre and still have heart while being kooky and out of the box." And of course, there's always going to be episodes that were better than others (maybe it's because I never watched Twin Peaks but I thought Dual Spires was a DULL episode) but episode taste will always been subjective while objectively, Psych is just a damn good show.
I also can't think of a better way for Psych to go out having just won a People's Choice Award for Best Cable TV Comedy...don't you love it when awards shows get it right?
The episode after the Olympics looks AMAZING though,
check out some pics and a episode summary here. The upside to this announcement is that interest is now incredibly high and there will probably (hopefully) be heavy promotion during the Olympics as well. It's actually the top of FB trending posts too! The Psych After Show is also something new and cool and will be a great homage and retrospective to the amazing cast, writers, and crew that has brought us so much joy.
Galavant has found its king. Psych standout Timothy Omundson has been cast as the second lead opposite Joshua Sasse in ABC’s single-camera pilot Galavant, a comedy fairytale written by Dan Fogelman, with Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken writing the music. Galavant centers on handsome Prince Galavant (Sasse) - a classic once-upon-a-time hero, complete with sword, horse, great hair, courage, mad skills (like dragon-slaying and helping the poor) - and his quest for revenge over the evil King Richard (Omundson) who stole his one true love, the beautiful Madalena (Mallory Jansen). To Galavant’s shock, Madalena decided she prefers the King and his wealth and power to the love of penniless Galavant.
I hear Omundson was Fogelman’s pick for the pivotal role from the get-go, and while it took a while, the actor was ultimately cast as King Richard, the last remaining part in the pilot which is about to begin production in London. Omundson, repped by Innovative Artists and manager Mike Bircumshaw, recently wrapped his eight-season turn as Detective Lassiter on USA’s dramedy Psych.
Deadline source won't link =/
TBH this sounds better off as a movie or mini series but a) I'm not complaining and b) this sounds like a nice balance to Once Upon a Time's sweeping dramatics which I do love but sometimes strays on the side of too much
