...one knows, or should, that respectable conservatism is dead. It is rotting in a grave, out of which hole has crept the most nefarious and zombified substitute, reeking of an acrid and putrescent characterological rot, upon which no calm and dispassionate bit of reason may find even a temporary home.

Zinging along.

Right? That sentence was just so beautifully constructed. :)

I couldn't help but read that line in the voice and beat of "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch."

Misread your comment as "You're a mean one, Mr. Gingrich," and started giggling maniacally at work.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am spreading it far and wide. I cannot believe the amount of hate that is being allowed to happen.

I had a man I work with send me the Hitler videos. I lost my shit.

He no longer sends that shit to me, but his subtle and persistent racism is really difficult. He is one of those lovely "Christians" who thinks his religion allows him to hate.

So rarely do I read something that leaves me stunned like this, but here it is. So perfectly laid out. Nothing else to say.

This is a beautiful article. I want to plaster it everywhere, and then make some sweet, sweet love to it.

It's too bad that it's basically preaching to the choir here, and that the people who need to read it, hear it, listen to it, and think about it won't take anything away from it.

Full disclosure: I'm white, so I don't want to whitesplain, but this is what I've observed.

The reason why many people do not like Tim Wise is precisely because of whitesplaining. He speaks on behalf of POCs, about white privilege, when as a white man he benefits from that privilege immensely.

I understand that, I really do. That said, I have heard many POC's in SJ conversations say things along the line of "it's not my job to educate you," (which I have no problems with, and am thankful for the POC who are willing to do the heavy lifting). I guess I don't get how we can simultaneously accept "it's not a POC's job to educate you" and "it's wrong for a white person to do the educating, because they benefit from privilege."

Add to that: I understand that it's INCREDIBLY PROBLEMATIC that a lot of white people will give more weight to a white voice than a brown one. But if *someone* is getting through to someone with that (conscious or not) bias, I don't see how that's a bad thing?

I mean, there are probably lots of other reasons why people don't like Tim Wise, but it seems like "because he's white" doesn't really make a lot of sense, all things considered.
