Former FL GOP Gov. Charlie Crist: Here's why I'm backing Barack Obama

I’ve studied, admired and gotten to know a lot of leaders in my life. Across Florida, in Washington and around the country, I've watched the failure of those who favor extreme rhetoric over sensible compromise, and I've seen how those who never lose sight of solutions sow the greatest successes.

While it's not surprising at all (there's a decent chance he's going to run again as a Dem), I'm curious to see what kind of attention this might get (or not get) nationally.

This needs the "not the onion" tag. Because holy fucking shit, this wasn't what I expected to see.

Crist was always one step away from being a Democrat when he was still a Republican, so this is no surprise. I loved how mad his fellow Repubs got when he was like, "Hey, maybe this stimulus money isn't so bad after all."

Yeah, but to be fair, the mainstream Democratic platform is center-right-- what the Republicans used to be. Nixon was the one who came up with the premise of the ACA, and Reagan oversaw the last sweeping immigration reform. Both of those guys would lose their primaries to Tea Party nutjobs if they were running today.

Yeah, it was scary a little while ago when I was reading about Canadian politics and realised that Obama is actually more on par with Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party than the Liberals or NDP up here... So the Republicans are even farther to the right. :/

Wha? Wow, I am just waiting to listen to this guy get excoriated by Limbaugh et al. Time for some good 'ol fashioned RINO poaching.

yes, I encourage this. Drive every last moderate from the party. It'll make things much easier for Democrats in the future.

Seriously. It seems that 99% of the moderates have already abandoned ship. Now it looks like the hardliners are just waiting to squeeze out that remaining 1%.
