the Catholic Church has had a long history of caring about poverty, workers rights, stuff like that. In some ways, they are better than the Protestants because of Catholic Church's history in the US of being the church of recent immigrants and working class people. They tend to be pretty decent when you get them away from gender/sexuality/reproduction issues.

i kind of agree with you about this, actually (i grew up catholic). however, in the context of politics...it's a very different story.

Exactly. I just completed a summer course in business/economic ethics at a Catholic U, and I don't understand how the liked of Santorum can actually justify some of the stances that they take on economic policies. However, to Santorum's credit, he actually does care more about helping average people than the rest of his party. I think he was the only one who even mentioned blue collar workers in the primary.

ia. And I'm a recovering Catholic. I'll give them this one--they do ACTUALLY give a shit about the poor and the marginalized (again, once you get away from sex etc)
