Wouldn't It Be Crazy If We Had Footage Of Romney Denouncing His Own Pro-Life Agenda?

"I will be a pro-life president." -Mitt Romney in an October 2007 address to the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit.

Romney's past seems pretty OK. It's his deep, dark right-now that freaks me out.

This is the thing that drives me crazy about Romney. If you look at a lot of his pre-presidential statements, they're actually fairly moderate. (I mean, he's obviously not that opposed to state mandated health care...and seems to have been fairly pro-choice.) I suspect that this is sort of what he believes. (Although I Can also 100% see it being what he was willing to say he believed in order to become governor of liberal leaning MA.) But...I highly suspect that if he becomes president, he'll be so indebted to the far right that any personal feelings won't matter. Pretty much impossible to vote for someone like that. (Unless you are far right, I suppose.)

He really is a caricature of a politician, isn't he? He's a cartoon. Not a president.

He really is. If one was trying to invent the perfect character for a sitcom, he'd be waaaay up there. Then again, an awful lot of them are. *sigh*

It's true! He is a parody of himself at this point.

I think Jay Smooth got it right:

Romney's like a fucking amoeba of beliefs and policies. And the people whose beliefs and policies he's now parroting are really gross and dangerous.

Honestly, this was also essentially Bush Jr., before vs. during *his* presidency. People get caught up in how seemingly dumb he came across, but he was still a trust fund baby and a somewhat indifferent, empty suit businessman before entering politics. He did SOME morphing as Governor of Texas, but was still largely isolationist in his views on U.S. foreign policy.

And then he became president. And one too many members of his admin were stocked with his dad's old hawkish buddies, or major contributors to PNAC -- hawkish buddies who spent CLINTON'S two-term presidency trying to convince HIM to meddle in the Middle East (more than Clinton had on his own, obvs; Clinton was no foreign policy dove).

Aaaaand again...some of these same creepy PNAC hawks went on to make up Bush's admin. All during the period when Bush went from aloof blank slate to Cowboy President of the World Police ( ... )
