Obama to tour areas devastated by fire in Colorado Springs

Jun 28, 2012 12:26

I've lived in Colorado Springs for the past 35 years. This is undoubtedly the worst disaster that we have seen within my lifetime. It's going to be another hot, dry day here; we set an all-time record high of 101° on Tuesday (the day the fire really exploded). For the past five days, I've watched the fire grow from my window and hear the MAFFS ( Read more... )

I know :( We're getting attention but not help. It's almost like a lot of people take it as a given that CO gets wildfires. Not like this though!

It's so surreal to know that this is going on at the western edge of town when the east side where I live has nothing worse than the smell of smoke on the wind. I'll be doing a shift tonight at my church, which is hosting evacuees.

Can you add the "share" button to your post, so we can repost it to our personal journals?

I'm not at home right now, but will send what I can! I'm also going to boost this to copperbadge for his Radio Free Monday post.

I live in Denver and this is all so surreal. I can see smoke from the south at most times of day. We're supposedly getting more thunderstorms and rain, and supposedly our "monsoon" is starting next week, but I don't know. D: SO MANY fires, all over the state. We always have wildfires but never like this. It's been so fucking hot with, like, 3% humidity so it's all a recipe for disaster. Fuck. I hope they can get the Waldo Canyon Fire contained soon. And I'm glad people were able to evacuate.

holy crap. that first picture of the smoke. i have nightmares about the end of the world that don't look as scary as that.

we sent money and plan to send more on payday. and i know my husbands firehall is doing a boot pass today to send money too, so we put some cash in it too.
