Not my absolute favourite (Farscape, forever), but the first 3 seasons or so are definitely up there. But CJ will always be one of my favourite tv ladies for her intelligence, humour, anger, and the beautiful (but sporadic) slapstick comedy from Alison Janney. I appreciate Donna more and more the older I get.
Ahahaha. You've seen season 7 right? When Josh is all tired, and Donna shows up at his place, he starts to go "I'm too tired to talk" and she just climbs on top of him?
LOL NO I only have seen the first couple seasons, but I had heard that they eventually do end up together (OBVIOUS). Donna is so in charge though. I LOVE HER. Donna and Charlie are my most favorite. And Mrs. Landingham.
eta: AND CJ. except I was annoyed that sometimes she was the foil for stupid josh and toby to explain things we all learned in high school government class. HELLO, CJ ALREADY KNOWS WHY WE HAVE TO DO THE CENSUS SHE IS SMART AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.
Okay, season 5 & 6 are kind of terrible. Season 7 is good though. They handle the way they get together beautifully. And I am basically okay with the fact that they had two terrible seasons because they did such a good job :D
[Also another couple, which leads to some really funny scenes when they're trying to hide their relationships]
I think it was one of those cases where everyone knew before Josh really did, Donna knew, obvs, but you know. Josh was totally fucking oblivious for the LONGEST time
I also never noticed the foily bits with CJ but it's because I'm Canadian, and while I understand how my government works, it is set up differently to the US government (our Senate is essentially ceremonial and needs to be scrapped, our Prime Minister has WAY too much fucking power, until the last election we had 4 parties that had sway, even though federal power usually goes to one or two, provincially all 4 parties have been in power at some point)(etc, etc)
I think it's helpful to have a foily character so details can be explained to the audience, but it just seemed unrealistic for CJ to be that character. It's hard on the West Wing, where all the characters are supposed to be smart and well-educated, but sometimes it worked for me with Charlie, who's a. young and b. not college educated. Like when Charlie and the president debate separation of church and state, I think that's really well done, because while the president doesn't necessarily agree with him, it doesn't denigrate Charlie's intelligence. Sometimes it works for Donna to be the foily character, like when she and Josh discuss stamps, or whether or not the penny should be gotten rid of. But CJ is the White House press spokeswoman, is obviously very smart and knowledgeable, and not naive, so it bothered me a lot when she was randomly stupid about some topic so that Josh and Toby could explain stuff to her.
the west wing is still my favorite tv show of all time.
