Hillary Clinton 'Overweight,' Author Ed Klein Tells Fox News

For some, when U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Bangladesh in early May, the country's human rights record wasn't the top news. Nor was her speech on the recent tensions within the country.

Instead, the Drudge Report splashed a photo of Clinton's makeup-free face, calling her "au natural," as she merely sported black framed glasses ( Read more... )

fox news, fail, flames on the side of my face, hillary clinton, politics, misogyny

I'm reminded of an episode of Doctor Who where the PM (female) did something to piss off the Doctor and he just turns around and says to a journalist, "don't you think she looks tired..." and it kills her career. :/

The saddest part about all of this is there are plenty of other things you could be doing to further political discourse - the best thing you could think of to criticize Clinton was talk about her appearance? Not only is it sexist, it's just plain lazy. I guess I shouldn't expect much from Fox News, though...

Yep, but you know they were saying the same about a local female politician recently in my area, teh same thing 'she looks tired' and I was like yeah, no. Grrr. It's so loaded.

At the time that I watched that episode, it didn't bother me at all, but now I'm very :/ about it. I don't think they would have used that same line with a male PM.

That's still the one DW line that pisses me off more than any other tbh.

Yep. And the sense that because she did something he didn't like, that's what she deserved.

I honestly think that happens to a lot of the characters that oppose the Doctor. I really don't think it was because Harriet Jones was a woman, but because she went up against the sparkly willpower perfection knowledgebomb egomaniac that the Doctor is written as sometimes.

He would have punished a male PM, sure, but the technique and possibly even the degree were enhanced by the fact that she is a woman.

Yeah, I didn't side-eye it at the time but now I think it's incredibly gross.

I still haven't forgiven the Doctor for doing that, especially considering the string of rubbish PMs that followed.

That line is why I stopped watching after the Ninth doctor; I couldn't get over that one thing with 10. It still makes me mad.

That was my first exposure to Doctor Who, and the idea that it would kill her career was pretty ridiculous. They say that kind of shit about female politicians all the time.
