I wish my parents had been more like this. I was taught that I had to have a man to do anything. I'm 26 and my parents still like to bitch if I drive to see them instead of making my husband come with me so he can drive.

Haha, I had the same thought. I can only imagine the freak out my parents would have if I had wanted to cut off all my hair when I was a kid. Hell, they would probably have the same freak out now.

...holy shit. o.O That kind of authoritarianism and sexism is terrifying, honestly. Then again, when my mother told me (when I was 7) that I couldn't get my hair cut, I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut my own hair.

I know I would raise my kids differently but I also know my parents are going to be sneaking things into her head, I just hope they don't take.
I've been married since I was 19, luckily, my husband is nothing like them but it was the only way I was allowed to move out of their house.
It's a little scary how much control parents can have, even over an adult child.
