This is a good article. It's so easy to turn Trayvon's death into nothing more than a political linchpin, but in the middle of it, there's still a child. A human being. And we do him and his family a disservice if we forget that.

I've been avoiding articles about this case for mental health reasons so it's good to see one that reminds us that this is about the death of an unarmed child. The fact that he was a black "man" just explains what drove the overreaction.

I'm glad I haven't encountered this in RL because I have NO patience for this. Do this people not read the newspaper? Unarmed black men are killed regularly all over the US. This is not a radical concept but something happening RIGHT IN FRONT OF US.

Fuck. I had someone try to lecture me, a Black Latina, about race issues in Latin America. Zimmerman is fucking White, and if you don't like that, fuck off.

I hate that response. Just because you are a minority doesn't mean you aren't able to discriminate against people based on their race/ethnicity.
