That's probably just a function of not knowing much about him.

and earlier on, it seemed like other candidates were getting so much attention for saying awful things that he was kind of able to just coast along in the background

IDK about the general public, but a lot of people here (like me) thought he was "the least bad" out of all the possible candidates. I mean, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Michelle Bachmann were serious candidates ffs. Hunstman never stood a chance, Ron Paul doesn't live in the real world, Herman Cain is an IRL troll (At least he was entertaining?), and Newt Gingrich just seems like a terrible person in every and any way.

A Romney presidency will probably be disastrous, but it will probably take him longer to destroy the country than the other Republican candidates. However, Mormonism in general is more scary to me than the other candidates' religions.
