What a guy. Heroism like that, and then to downplay it. I've never heard of him before but I am impressed with his humility and class.

It's funny that very few Newark residents share that opinion but because the guy twitters and hobnobs with Oprah (people who probably only been to the airport) claim he's a great mayor.

Every single time there's a post about a mayor or another local official doing something good, or being known outside of their immediate location, someone marches in and announces that "everyone" or "almost everyone" in that location thinks that official is doing a shitty job. It's a little hard to take that complaint seriously when it happens *all the time*.

Oh so you're familiar with Newark the actual city like the unemployment, crime stats, etc? If a person is going to proclaim someone as a successful mayor surely they would are armed with some knowledge that validates that claim.

I'm saying that if you want to prove that he's a bad mayor, you need to bring more evidence than "all the locals know" because otherwise, how the hell do we know that's true? If the claim that "everybody knows" that an official is actually awful is brought up with regularity, and frequently has no real backing other than one person's friends and family hating that official, it becomes really hard to lend any credence to similar claims in the future about other people.

Then there's the fact that any politician right now has shitty ratings, since Bush fucked up the economy and left it for other people to fix. Nobody looks awesome when money's tight, since people's expectations of progress assume resources can appear from thin air.

Just read any comments section in the star ledger (the local paper) has there been an actual opinion no probably not of local residents so I guess you got me there. Newark has been a mess since the riots in the late 60s plagued with corruption the last mayor was in prison. So of course I'm not blaming all the problems in Newark on the Booker administration but what I absolutely resent is how is bs media hype that he's created. He has time to fly all over the country giving speeches (for $20,000 a pop) while the unemployment rate is at 15% if we counted the individuals who have just given up that number would be astronomical. Than there is the crime statistics which went up 21% in a year after he laid off 167 police officers oh but not to worry because the mayor did manage to retain the 9 police officers that serve as his security detail at all times. He doesn't even feel safe in his city what does that tell you. The drop-out rate is 55% which is career death for most of these kids in Newark ( ... )

Right?! If you went by the comments section of the San Francisco Chronicle online, you'd think San Francisco was entirely populated by right-wing crackpots. Try again.
