March 22, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A woman shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer on Wednesday morning died Thursday. Family members say she was an innocent bystander and are calling for an investigation into her death

Late Thursday afternoon, the Chicago Police Department told ABC 7 that CPD had been in contact with Boyd's family and would like to express sincere condolences.
I have no words. Is that all they have for her family? WTF are they not say they will get her killer?
Oh I know, they've been doing it already too. Didn't take but 2 hot minutes either. (Hell, I'm still trying to figure this right here out and what we need to wait for exactly?) This shit happens in every damn post like this, I swear. And lawd don't even try to read comments from the various news sources/articles, because those are even worse. smh
And I know better than to read the comment section of any newspaper when a black person is involved in the story, because people don't have any damn sense. I don't need to raise my already astronomically high blood pressure any more.
I'm posting this, because while everything with Trayvon is going on, similar crimes against black men AND WOMEN tend to be forgotten. My experience has been the opposite. Not only are other stories I'd forgotten about being recalled, but similar crimes I'd never heard about have been brought to my attention in the wake of Trayvon's death.
I don't know if Occupy is trying to throw crumbs or if it's just trying to ride coattails . . . Is it really about other movements anyway or the need for a larger, sustained movement combating crimes and injustices committed by the police?
I've generally found that the media does not have time for more than one black person as a victim at any one time, especially on a national scale. This one is going to get glossed over, I can feel it.
Even if someone did pull a gun on the officer, aren't the police trained not to return fire unless there are no innocent bystanders in the line of fire? I mean, I realize when someone's aiming a gun at you and firing, it's kinda hard, but you're a cop. You should have the proper training for this stuff.
I don't know about that, I think they're still expected to defend themselves, BUT they're sure as hell not supposed to aim for the hand especially when there's a lot of people, because that seems like a really easy way to hit an innocent bystander.
My husband used to be in state patrol, and he absolutely NEVER had a gun on him when he was off duty. This seems all kinds of fucked up to me.
