HIV-positive teen avoids jail for unprotected sex

EDMONTON - A 17-year-old girl has been given a conditional discharge for having unprotected sex with two teenagers without disclosing her HIV-positive status.

I liked that statement. It made it clear, to me at least, that the girl might very well have been assaulted sexually, or at the very least, taken advantage of when she was not in a fit state to consent. And/or, that often men in a sexual encounter refuse to wear condoms, and while a lot of women would simply say no way, and walk, it's possible that sex was 'paying' for food, or shelter, and the man saying 'no' was something she had no control over.

Yeah, it's really upsetting that she's being charged, and that she was basically 'outed' to an entire city and her life was potentially put in danger....

It's like the police arresting underage girls for prostitution. They are *not* the criminals!

The media had no business what so ever releasing her name or photo, minor or not.
