Tim Tebow’s profession of faith has thrust the mixture of sport and religion into the national spotlight in a way that few can remember

But...but that can't be true! The Steelers are ~Christian~!!!!! Did they do something to offend God last week or something? Or did God just not love them enough or let them win?
I'm being sarcastic. I'm a Ravens fan but reside in PA. I had a close friend from who was very anti-football before she became a religious fanatic and moved to Pittsburg to go to a Holy Spirit missionary school. Then suddenly she started going on and on -CONSTANTLY- about the Steelers this and the Steelers that. Her reasoning? "THE STEELERS ARE MEN OF GOD, DARNNIT, SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM THEN YOU HATE GOD!". I was like, ok whatever. She is impossible to argue with, so I just pointed out some well known issues with lawlessness that her "Godly men" displayed and left it at that. And that other football teams have people who are Christian in it. She just huffed and ignored logic.
I went to visit her for a few days before she graduated the "program" and went abroad to be a missionary. She dragged me to a Sunday service there... Let's just say that this was a football Sunday that the Steelers were playing in and the entire church would not shut up!! The pastor found some way to even incorporate the Steelers and how ~awesome~ they were into the sermon! I was like, are you f****** kidding me?!?!
I am not friends with her anymore because she lost her shit when she found out that I, a 25 year old, live with my fiancé. Her solution was simple, rather than struggling to make ends meet together we should get two places and do it alone. Or get married and lose our financial aide. In any case our money issues, how I can't find a job and ANY OTHER problem he and I have is due to our evil lawlessness before God. I told her off finally (and informed her that her trying to ~convert~ me made me dislike organized religion even more) and don't speak to her anymore, so I don't know how the Steelers loss to a ~Christian~ man played out. I'd love to know though.
I loathe how people attribute sports performances to religiousness. This applies to other things too, like people who don't study for tests but pray they do well if God deems it to be so (I went to an evangelical private school until 7th grade, so I saw this a lot). Two ENTIRELY different things!
Ben was framed! He is the most wonderful Christian the team has no one should ever slander his name with ridiculous rumors! (I kid you not, she said this...)
Right now I'm living in central-ish PA since I was here for school, but I'm moving at the end of the month down near the MD/PA state line again. I'm hoping to find full time work in Maryland though, I've just been looking for forever. ATM I pretty much see an even amount of fans for the Steelers, Jets (the team my fiance likes) and the Eagles. I miss living in Ravensville. ♥ So I'm looking forward to it.
I legit read an article a week or so ago implying that Ben "Playing For Jesus" Roethlisberger had simply ~lost his way~ and now that he'd started to pray again, he was accepted into God's forgiving arms.
I live in the Philadelphia area, so I always assumed that Steelers fans were infinitely more normal and reasonable than Eagles fans. I've hated Eagles fans since they came out in support of Vick and basically said that they didn't care about his vicious, violent crimes, they were going to win SUPERBOWLS.
I almost dated a dude who was an Eagles fan, which was alright with me. Little did I know of his obnoxiousness. He was, for real, only "allowing" me to be a Baltimore fan cause we were both birds. Then I would have had to convert later, it was only acceptable. I just laughed him off, cause I wasn't serious about him anyway. He is the only Eagles fan I know. Now I am frightened that there are more like that.
