I would really like just a list of random facts like this that they just never teach you in sex ed. I honestly didn't know about this until I sat in on a gossip session during my first year of college, and thinking back to everyone I knew who began having sex in high school, this might have actually been a really important thing to cover in sex ed., my public high school. :/

Nobody taught me that in sex ed. It was basically just "don't have sex or you will get HIV and die". For some reason having an orgasm makes me have to pee so urinating after sex just always happens. Only when I was about 23 did someone tell me it prevents UTI's. (I've still never had one, so I assume I'm doing something right!)

masturbating in the shower is the best because you can wash up afterwards WHILE PEEING. XD

I'm clumsy enough that I'm always afraid of slipping and falling, though. ;_;

It sucks, 'cause as much as I love my vibe? Even THAT doesn't compare to the "massage" setting on my waterpik shower head, but my shower's too damn tiny and the head's hose is too damn short to use it any other way than standing. XP

Well, I think that a full bladder presses against some fun muscles down there, so having to pee can help you feel good, and then when you orgasm you'd naturally have to pee.

Whatever my seventh grade sex ed class didn't cover - and even after high school I knew stuff that a lot of my peers don't - I go straight to Scarleteen to find out. I wish that site were in book form.

I have a random dream that, after I have some years of research under my belt, I basically write Scarleteen in book form (basically, a really awesome sex ed book aimed at girls and young women).

Sure, if we can stay in contact for at least the 5+ years I will imagine it will take me to become prolific enough that the book will be taken seriously, lol. I do want to write it, but I don't plan to start it until after I'm finished my PhD (1.5 years), a postdoc (2 years) and have a couple years as a full-blown researcher under my belt.

OMG, please do. I would buy a million copies and just pass them out to everyone I know with a daughter/granddaughter/niece/etc.

I would aim for it to be as beat-up and passed around as that old copy of Forever... by Judy Blume that you know is still making the rounds around your high school, haha. But seriously, I am just using these years to collect information about the chapters that should be included.

In all seriousness, Judy Blume books were kind of the inspiration for me writing it...I remember how normal I felt when I read Deenie and realized she was masturbating in the bathhtub ("I DO THAT TOO!! OMG I'M NOT A FREAK!!") or when I read Forever... and the main characters were getting it on and they *spoilers* DIDN'T get a magical happy ending. They were just teenagers being teenagers, and it was amazing. I want girls and young women to feel that "normal" feeling about everything - masturbation and sexual feelings and being a lesbian or bisexual or transgendered - but also NOT having sexual feelings or being interested in sex or whatever. I imagine that I'll maybe have a coauthor and definitely will interact with a lot of people who have different ( ... )
