Halal Turkey, The Other Brown Meat.

This Thanksgiving, Beware The Sharia Turkey

You may think that when you buy a Butterball turkey this Thanksgiving you’re as American as apple pie. But, you’d be wrong. In fact, you’re the victim of a “stealth halal” conspiracy.

In a column on The American Thinker, anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller explains that halal ( Read more... )

...wtf? I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) the practice of halal was just slaughtering the animals, much like one might slaughter kosher meat. No religious associations. And even if so, eating the turkey is not going to make you Muslim anymore than a person eating kosher hot dogs is gonna be Jewish.

And I'm under the impression that halal slaughter is so much less cruel than normal turkey farming practices that I'll probably start buying Butterball products after knowing this.

Apparently, a Muslim prayer is said in the facility, which is probably the real bone of contention. OTOH, watching the right wing fools freaking out on Facebook is comedy gold.

The prayer itself is basically one of thanks, similar to one I suppose Christians might say at a dinner table. I haven't witnessed one of the slaughters myself (despite my mom insisting), but the principle is pretty much just that as well as making sure that the animal dies as painlessly as possible.
