you can't get another one inserted when it wears off?

You can, but it's a bit of a hassle if they have to knock you out for it!

This. My periods were never THAT bad, but still painful, and I don't miss them at all. Six months of occasional discomfort after insertion were totally worth it. Mirena rocks.

They had to knock me out for insertion, too, because my cervix is so tiny. Another reason not to get pregnant...

Oh god now I'm scared to ask my APRN in 1.5 weeks if it's a good idea, because fuck periods. And fuck spending money on NuvaRing, even though it's been awesome. Even 4 periods a year and it's just so much of a hassle.

I tried so hard to love my Mirena but it made me grow a fake-pregnant belly complete with stretch marks and the cramping was HORRID. Oh, and when they went to remove it after I gave up finally...the strings had wound up wrapped around the IUD itself so they had to numb my cervix and go in after it. Delightful.

I think it's because I've never been pregnant and my uterus was like WTF NO, WHAT IS THIS DOING IN HERE? I hope it'll work one day in future.
