Excessive my ass. Excessive for queer folks means we're existing in a way that means people have to see us.
And what the fuck is a family airline?

No, I have no doubt that they meant family in that really snarky way that conservatives mean it when they basically mean anything they don't agree with is not allowed. "This is a family network."

Also, it's been my experience that most airlines allow you to bring outside food. I've never had a problem bringing snacks and food that I've bought in the airport onto the plane.

this is probably not what they mean but whenever i travel southwest, i always see a lot of parents with two or three kids flying together. when you're flying with a family, you want to avoid having to pay out of the ass for tickets when southwest has cheaper fares; there's also the added plus of free checked bags, especially when travelling with kids, because you can check both the parents' suitcase(s) and a suitcase for the kids. and i always see kids with those little animal backpacks where they usually have like toys and coloring books.

i was chatting with a mom who was flying with her husband and their five and seven year old and she was telling me how they always brought a small roll-on with overnight clothes and toiletries for the kids, and each kid had a little animal backpack with toys and an apple and some string cheese even though i don't think you're supposed to bring outside food on the plane.

so maybe that's what they mean by "family airline" because it's convenient for families but ofc i may be applying my own personal

That's not what they mean at all.

They mean their ambiguous "family values" bullshit that bigots pull out every time they want to justify hating any particular group.

Yes, I am aware that is what they meant.

If you are aware that that is what they meant then what was the purpose of your comment trying to explain away their actions?

I don't think any airline has ever not allowed people to bring outside food on the plane. It's not a movie theater.

And families use every airline. SW isn't special.

They used to before 9/11.

I never said that SW wasn't special, just that I fly a lot and always see a large number of families because they have cheap rates.

And I've never been allowed to bring outside food once I get past security, not even bottled water. You can conceal it in your luggage, sure, but I've flown several times in the past two years and people are told they have to finish their food before they go through security because they're not permitted to bring it onto the plane.

You're allowed to bring food on the plane; you're not allowed to bring liquids through security.

You can't bring bottled water because liquids aren't allowed, but you can buy water or soda once you're past security. And you can bring food with you unless its something that counts as a liquid or gel. I can't find any US airline that doesn't allow people to bring their own food, and most airports actively encourage people to buy food and bring it on the plane. It is, however, entirely possible that the TSA agents you saw were giving out bad information because they decided someone's sandwich looked suspicious.

here's the TSA guidelines. here's Southwest's policy, food for consumption on the plane is not only allowed but doesn't count against your carry-on allowance.

So I can logically bring food from home to eat on the flame? Shit, next time I fly I'm taking a sandwich and a fruit salad.

Fruit salad might count as a liquid. We bring dry snacks and a sandwich (just cheese, no condiments) for the Kid, and then get the condiments when we pass through security.

I always bring bottled water from inside one of the stores behind security.
