'Irvine 11' jury finds all 10 students guilty

Sep 23, 2011 14:07

After more than two days of deliberation, an Orange County jury on Friday found 10 Muslim students guilty of two misdemeanors to conspire and then disrupt a February 2010 speech at UC Irvine last year by the Israeli ambassador to the United States.

There was crying as the verdict was read in Superior Court Judge Peter J. Wilson’s courtroom. The students showed no visible emotion, although they hugged each afterward. Some also stormed out. )

No comments on this?! Really??

I was horrified when I found out, to think you can't speak freely about Israel without having to go to court for it :(

I was horrified when I found out, to think you can't freely disrupt a speech in a deliberate manner and refuse to leave an assembly without having to go to court for it. :(

Fixed that for you.

Have you seen the video? They said what they came to say and then left with their hands in the air followed by police. Check your facts.

you really seem to value being able to say whatever you want regardless of context

Yeah, no. Not to mention the many times this has happened across the country on university campuses with no criminal charges brought against the protesters.

Fixed that for you.

If by 'fixed' you mean 'misrepresented the hell out of the situation', good job.
