Britain was once an ordered society that was the envy of the world - the most civilised, the most gentle and law-abiding.

Africa, India, China, and the Middle East would like to have a word with you.

Don't forget Ireland and Scotland!

Er, Scotland entered a union with England, it wasn't conquered. Lumping it in with Ireland, Africa, China and the Middle East is somewhat simplistic.

Plus the original comment said Britain. Britain includes Wales, Scotland and England. ("United Kingdom" includes Northern Ireland and a few other bits and bobs.)

There was a really good video explaining all this... Aha!

Yeah we did, but there was plenty of fighting and opression~ beforehand. And afterward, dare I say it. It 's complicated I guess.

& Wales.

For sure, being part of Britain, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall are different cases to everywhere else, but it's not like when people came invading we were all pally and it was without consequence.

I think Greece might still have an issue with a few pieces of marble the UK is holding, too.

The implication in the statement isn't necessarily with the loot the UK (and other places around the world) has but with regards to the imperialistic past...as in the Opium wars/Boxer Rebellion, Boer War, Palestine, the Raj etc.

*nods* I think the problem with all of this is that there are just so many factors that are in play here that anything anyone comes up with seems like an oversimplification. At the same time...people write shit like this (and have it published) and people believe it and start making noise. It makes me sad for the future, and I have to live there at least part time. (thankfully escaped the worst of it; I'm in Luxembourg atm with my husband as he's started his new job because he can't get one in the UK *glares at Cameron and his cronies and Labour and theirs* He joked that at this rate, I may not be able to return and I am TOTALLY FINE with that LOL I want to stay here but unfortunately can't [yet])
