In a lot of areas like this cities are built on top of old cities and if something far enough underground shifts or gives way the chain reaction makes a hole in the ground that can be very little or very, very big.

It's actually pretty common in older cities and has to do with a combination of building on top of older structures and the earth's crust being naturally fluid. It's really nothing to be afraid of... unless you almost fall into one I suppose. This would sure freak me out to find in the morning under my own bed.

I was about 4 years old when I first saw this movie. My mom rented it on VHS and she actually let me watch it. IDK what she was thinking but this movie haunted my nightmares for years afterward.

LOL. You don't know how right you are.
She rented Gremlins and let me watch with her when I was about the same age. After the movie she went to the door, opened it and cried "OMG, it's a Gremlin!" The she laughed when she saw how scared I was.
I'm sure she is where I get my sick sense of humor.

Am I just looking at it wrong? It looks like it's neatly lined by circularly laid out bricks, like the hole was there during building.
