I have the sense that it's less an ignorance of law on their part, and more a desperate need to cling to an absurdly over-broad definition of the word "abortion." Given how many forced-birth activists fervently insist that various types of birth control are "actually abortion," it's unsurprising that they'd come up with this line.

Goddamn. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but this would be fantastic. It wouldn't fix the defunding of Planned Parenthood that's happening everywhere, because PP provides more than just free contraceptives, but it would still fundamentally be a very good thing for everyone in this country.

Catholic bishops and other religious and social conservatives say pregnancy is a healthy condition and the government should not require insurance coverage of drugs and other methods that prevent it.

lol actually sometimes pregnancy can kill people, but I mean what do I know, it's not like I'm too small to safely deliver a baby out of this here uterus (still no hysto, sigh). It's not like I'd actually probably be suicidal if I got pregnant, particularly since that would almost categorically mean I'd been raped and have lost my access to hormone therapy.

Also lol I love how these dipshits don't pay attention to how if your contraceptive is condoms then you are taking measures against diseases.

No way, being pregnant is the healthiest you can get, obviously EVERYONE should be pregnant ALL THE TIME.

This plays to my ear as a twisted version of the natural birth movement which is pro-women and emphasizes how much unnecessary medical intervention hurts women and children. You know, planned cesarians so the dr can make it to his golf game, hooking a woman in labour to monitors so she can't keep moving, etc.

I doubt this is accidental. They've taken "pregnancy is not an illness" to "delivery is risk-free!"

'essentially would mandate coverage for abortion."

If only if only.

But this is awesome. I realllllly hope the Health and Human Services Secretary agrees with this.

I would kill for free BC methods.

I think that's what the Catholics think you're doing.
