It's weird to me that some people think that because you're a man, you can't be sexually assaulted/raped.

The fact that the wives leave them makes me a bit angry for some reason.

I found it very conflicting, but the more I think about it, the less angry I feel and the more I just want to weep at the whole situation. In particular, if the reasoning behind their actions is, 'If he can be raped, who is protecting me?' The woman feared for herself and her children, believing people would see them as easy targets unable to escape. It's not just the women who think this when they leave them, it's a widespread psychological disease that includes neighbors and other relatives, as well as assailants. It is absolutely horrible the victim is left with no support, perhaps only validation of what they themselves think, but I don't see the women who do this as evil. Scared and perhaps uneducated, but not evil. It's rage-inducing, instead, that anyone is conditioned to think this way in the first place.
